Reduce Waste, Reuse, Recycle

We can all play our part in making the world a better place. One of the first steps is to think about all the things that come into our lives, and all the things that go out of it. We can and should all of us try to minimise the amount of waste we create. To reduce waste right now, we can:

  • Buy only what we truly need.
  • Think long term, make do and mend.
  • Use, reuse and value all our resources.
  • Rethink the term 'waste'.
  • Learn age-old skills to make use of things around us and make us more resilient.
  • Be a conscious consumer and buy only from those who share your values.

You Are What You Eat

Food is one of our biggest global problems. Unfortunately, factory farms, mono-crop agriculture and food transportation account for a huge proportion of humanity's costly carbon footprint. The good news is that individuals can really make a difference. We can:

  • Grow as much of our own food as possible, at home or in community spaces.
  • Stay away from factory farmed meat. Go with organic, grass fed, or even game meat.
  • Grow or buy organic produce – no nasty, polluting herbicides or pesticides.
  • Buy food as locally as possible.
  • Wake up to where your food comes from and how it reaches your plate and make ethical decisions about what to buy.
  • Cook from scratch as much as possible with fresh, local produce.
  • Have a compost bin – don't waste any food.
